Library introduction The Seolak Library was constructed in 2009 with a total floor area of 1,470.20㎡ with one underground floor and 3 ground floors on a ground site of 693㎡ in Seorak-myeon with the most number of multicultural family residents among the districts of Gapyeong-gun. There are about 48,000 books and non-book materials at the Seolak Library, which include not only general books and children’s books, but also include about 3,500 foreign books in English, Japanese, Chinese and French, etc, which were acquired in reflection to the characteristics of the region with a high population density of multicultural families.
The Seolak Library has various facilities such as Children’s archive, Library and Information Services, Family Reading Room, Laptop Room, Multi-purpose Room, and Seminar Room. It offers its services all year round except on New Year’s Day (Jan.1st), Seolnal (Korean New Year’s Day), and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). It extended its hours of operation of the Library and Information Services to 10:00pm that provides loan services. An average of 416 residents uses the Seolak Library per day, and the number of new library members increased by 1,535 in just a year. Also, it has contributed in increasing the cultural capacity of the residents in the area by loaning 117,715 books.
It not only has books for loan, but also operates various reading and experience programs to provide opportunities for cultural and lifelong education. It also operates programs for individuals who face difficulties in using the library including groups alienated from information and busy office workers.
